The Disaster management unit of the office of National Security (ONS) in collaboration other stakeholders is presently in the process of setting up the above platform which is one of the outcomes of the Durban platform of action for climate change DDR. We had the inception meeting at the office of the Vice President with the Hon Vice president as the chairman where various players and role were identified.
As nearly 80% of most disasters are weather related, the Meteorological Department will head the thematic group on climate change, pollution and explosion (CCPE). We are also represented as member of the Transport Disaster, Floods and Mudslide task groups.
